They’re raising millions of dollars in New York City and New Jersey. They sent Gov. Christie around the country raising millions of dollars for them. I’m saying , anyone from New York or New Jersey who contributes one penny to the Republican congressional campaign committee should have their head examined. I would not give one penny to these people after what they did to us last night.
This is the sound of the GOP imploding.

In addition to him being the President Pro Tempore, he was also Chair of Senate Appropriations. So somebody’s going to have to replace him, right? Because Appropriations is kind of really important, especially with this whole fiscal cliff business and further long term issues about how we think about paying for things. I think it should be Barbara Mikulski.
Why? Barbara Mikulski is a lot of really great things:
Not that Senate Democrats need help reminding the country that women have an important place in our politics, but any chance to remind everybody of that is probably smart.
Of course, the other person who makes sense for the job is Dick Durbin. If I were a betting duder, I’d put my money on him based on his leadership position (he’s the Majority Whip) and his work with the Gang of Six and Simpson-Bowles Commission. Also he’s my Senator and I like the guy.
But Appropriations Chairwoman Barbara Mikulski sounds pretty nice to me.

This 4.4 ton, 14-foot-tall weaponized mech warrior is a thing that you can actually buy now in Japan.
Equipped with a water-powered bottle-rocket launcher, and a “smile-activated” machine gun capable of firing 6,000 bb’s per minute, one can easily imagine the evolution of the Kurata into a fearsome military monstrosity.
With a top speed of 6 mph, the Kurata can either be piloted from inside its cockpit, or remotely — using a smartphone.
“The vehicle of everyone’s wildest dreams,” as the company boasts in a promotional video, can be ordered in one of 16 different exterior colors, and carries a not-so-humble price tag of $1.35 million.
Watch it in action here.
This is the only thing I’ll ever want again in my life.

Liberal schadenfreude is about to reach overdose levels. Just when you thought the dead horse of Mitt Romney’s campaign had been beaten more than enough — and most savagely by members of his own party — Dave Wasserman at Cook Political Report projects that the final count of the popular vote, which is still ongoing, will show Romney winning 47 percent of the electorate.
Oh god guys I found another bottle of Republican Tears with a really good vintage. And just in time for Thanksgiving!

The Last Redskins Preelection Home Game Result Might Determine the Election
Sure, people are asking psychics whether Romney or Obama will be inaugurated in January, but we’re looking to America’s (second?) favorite sport for a prediction.
A Redskins win meant the incumbent party would stay put. A Redskins loss meant the White House would change parties. With only one exception — 2004 — this trend has held in every election cycle.
Something about correlation and causation or whatever I don’t even give a shit anymore but I am thoroughly done and full of can’t.
Just an update on this: the Washington Washingtons lost and Barack Obama is still POTUS. Can we retire this now?

The day after the election, the President made a surprise visit to campaign HQ in Chicago to thank staff and volunteers. Here’s what he said.
Barack Obama is a huge jerk for making me cry multiple times in the last week. Even if it was good crying.

In a historic move this week, Uruguayan President José Mujica has signed into law a bill that waives criminal penalties for abortion in the first 12 weeks of gestation, with certain procedural requirements, and in the first 14 weeks of gestation in the cases of rape.
The law marks a significant development in realizing women’s human rights and preventing unsafe, clandestine abortions in the region.Read more after the jump.

DARPA’s goal is to build a robot capable of completing an obstacle course that would challenge an able-bodied human, says Will Oremus at Slate. Although Pet-Proto completes the tasks successfully, he ambles over impediments kind of like “a drunken sailor.”
Meet the Pet-Proto: The U.S. military’s clumsy humanoid rescue robot
I hate it. It’s like the terrible horse robot from a couple of years ago but even more scary.

- The New Yorker endorses Barack Obama.
- The New York Post endorses Mitt Romney.
- Colin Powell endorses Barack Obama.
I’ll update and re-post this regularly. Please feel free to let me know about other major endorsements via my Ask box.
Insomuch as endorsements don’t matter much in general elections, that last one is about as consequential as they get.

2. Obama will learn from his mistakes. He let Romney go unchallenged Wednesday night as the GOP nominee distorted his own policies and injected some new ones into the campaign. Strategists close to Obama predicted hours after the debate that the president will be more aggressive in the next encounter. If Obama took the challenge lightly on Wednesday night, as some allies believe, Romney jolted him out of his nonchalance.

This just got way more serious, as NATO is meeting over it.
Man, it’d be real cool if Syria and Turkey didn’t go to war. Like maybe the best thing.
